About the event

NM Art & Design is delighted to announce its debut at the PAD London fair this October, where it will be just one of 11 galleries participating for the very first time.

It will bring a unique perspective and approach, presenting a selection of carefully curated works that firmly embody its firm focus on craft, its celebration of materiality and its desire to promote artistic integrity.

Entitled “Traces,” its display acts as a meditation on time, memory and transformation, with works that question the relationship between the past and present. What remains and what is new? What derives from nature and what is bestowed by the human hand? What is the value of aging and what is the role of innovation?

Fine cracks and uneven textures remind us that objects are not only also shaped by their makers, but also by time and emotion. As such, they become vessels for feelings and recollections; symbols of connections to a particular place or moment.

The very name of Mike Seymour’s Canadian-based practice, Sfossils, harks back to a distant era. Woven from denim, Japanese textile artist Momoka Gomi’s mesmerizing ‘Recollection’ triptych records traces of life through fraying, traces and marks. Through its use of local materials, Adriana Meunié’s ‘Wild Waterfall’ wall sculpture is firmly rooted in the landscape of her native Majorca. Drozhdini’s glass and charred oak ‘Venezia’ vase bears the marks of its fabrication, while the wood used in Zlata Kornilova’s sculptures speaks of its very evolution, thought its cracks, knots and grains. Nitush–Aroosh’s stainless-steel furniture is a result of transmission, anchored in the days spent in their father’s metal workshop during their childhood. Alexandra Volskaya’s ‘Congaree’ rug references a national park that has developed over millennia. Finally, Benni Allan’s ‘Low’ furniture collection was inspired by the age-old cultures of the likes of Japan and China.
