Main media

ceramic

Sfossils casts light through layers of textured memory. His chandeliers, born of clay and fire, unveil the beauty of decay in nature — the instant when dissolution turns into creation. Embracing the traditions of metallurgy and glass-blowing, Sfossils develops experimental glazes that that expand the possibilities of the medium. Like wood reshaped by time and weather into a new artifact, the surfaces he creates embody change as a source of wonder. Whether suspended within vast architectural volumes or grounded in interiors, his works stand as luminous witnesses to metamorphosis and reminding us that nothing remains still, and in transformation lies meaning.

Sfossils is an experimental studio investigating the social, historical and cultural contexts of craft through lighting, furniture and other objects of utility. Through the development of these artifacts, the process of making and the story of their use become intertwined. Each series by the studio is a research-based inquiry into a craft movement, material or object typology. Rigorous experimentation is in continuous practice to understand the poetry and spirit of making objects that bring delight to the everyday experience.

Founded and helmed under the creative direction of artist Mike Seymour, Sfossils is based in Vancouver, Canada.
